A.H.P.C. COMPETITION
RULES (Updated Dec 2002)
All of these events are only open to fully paid up
A.H.P.C. members. Witnesses, turn point photographs, barographs and so on are
not explicitly required for any of these competitions. You simply have to
convince people that you've done it. i.e. If you say you flew a hundred miles
from St. Cyrus and everyone thinks you're full of shit, then you don't get the
trophy. Flights ending within controlled
airspace will not be accepted.
Entries
for the “big stiff one”, “big soft one”, “over the back bottle” and “handicap
XC league” are not limited to launches from club sites but any hill in the
Aberdeen club region. The Aberdeen club region is defined as anywhere in
Scotland NE of a line drawn between St Cyrus to Cairnwell and Cairnwell to the
mouth of the River Spey (see map below):

BIG STIFF ONE TROPHY
This trophy is awarded annually
at the A.G.M for the biggest distance flown from an Aberdeen club site on a Hang
Glider (in a single flight) since the previous A.G.M. The trophy is an
engraved tankard, which must be returned at the following years A.G.M. Entries
for this trophy must be submitted to the newsletter editor in the form of a
written article (i.e. a flight report) well before the A.G.M. In addition to
open distance flights, out and return or triangle flights will be accepted. Out
and Returns score double the total distance, and Triangles triple the total
distance, if done mostly out of ridge lift, or if you can convince the
assembled masses at the A.G.M of the merits of your particular flight (i.e. buy
everyone beer). Minimum distance requirement for open distance flights is 10Km.
Minimum distance requirement for out and return or triangle flights will be as
per current national X.C league rules.
BIG SOFT ONE TROPHY
Trophy awarded annually at the
A.G.M for the biggest distance flown from an Aberdeen club site on a Paraglider
(in a single flight) since the previous A.G.M. The trophy is an engraved
tankard, which must be returned at the following years A.G.M. All other rules as per the Big Stiff One
above except that the minimum distance requirement for open distance flights is
only 5Km.
GEORGE WATT MEMORIAL XC HANDICAP LEAGUE & TROPHY
This trophy, in memory of ex-Scottish hang gliding
champion George Watt, is awarded annually at the A.G.M for a handicapped league
run with the best 5 flights weighted according to glider type:
Paragliders 8:1
Intermediate hang gliders 10:1
Advanced hang gliders 12:1
Topless hang gliders 15:1
Rigid hang gliders 19:1
No minimum distance applies. Score is
distance in kilometres divided by weighting and scored the same as the Big Ones
(triangles times 3, etc).
OVER THE BACK BOTTLE AWARD
This trophy is awarded at the
A.G.M to whoever has done the greatest number of X.C's from Aberdeen club sites
since the previous A.G.M. All entries for this trophy must be submitted to the
newsletter editor in writing and contain the following information: Pilots
name, Date of flight, Take off point, Approx landing point, Approx distance
flown. Entries must be sent in within two weeks of the date of the flight if
the bare minimum of information as detailed above is all that is supplied. If
however this information is supplied in the form of a full newsletter article
of at least 300 words then it may be submitted up to two months after the date
of the flight. All entries must in any event be submitted prior to the A.G.M
(obviously). All open distance flights entered for this trophy must meet a
minimum distance requirement of 10 Km. Minimum distances for out and return or
triangle flights will be as per current national X.C league rules. Each successful (i.e. completed) out and return
flight counts as two flights towards your total for the trophy. Each successful
triangle counts as three flights. Failed out and return or triangle flights can
count as a single flight towards your total, if the total distance flown “on
course” is at least 10km. The trophy consists of
a bottle of whisky and an engraved tankard. The tankard must be returned at the
following years A.G.M, but you can drink the whisky.
AUTUMN TANKARD
A one day event held in Autumn. The
task is set on the day and is usually designed to allow pilots of all levels of
experience to have a chance of winning. The trophy is an engraved tankard which
is awarded on the day and must be returned for the following years competition.
McRONALD TROPHY
A one day event held in the
spring. The task is set on the day and is usually an X.C of some sort. The
trophy is an engraved tankard which is awarded on the day and must be returned
for the following years competition.
WINTER HEIGHT GAIN TROPHY
Runs from the beginning of
November to the end of February and is awarded to the A.H.P.C member who makes
the biggest height gain from a club site in that time. The trophy consists of a
pair of extra large Y - fronts in an old Whisky bottle (for those embarrassing
moments when your bottle fails and you need some clean underwear). It must be
returned for the following years competition.
CLUB PHOTO CONTEST
Judged annually at the A.G.M by
whatever method the chairman fancies.
This is a trophy awarded
annually at the A.G.M, by majority vote, to the pilot who has had the most
spectacular crash (that didn’t result in serious injury) since the last A.G.M.
Floofie to the Bottom
A
new prize donated by Lu McClintock to be awarded each year at the discretion of
the Dangler Editor. Things to be considered are the person with the least
airtime that has the cheek to show up at the AGM, the most “Top to Bottom”
flights mentioned in the Flight Reports, the number of articles written for the
Dangler, the number of articles NOT written, or the pilot just providing the
most entertainment value through the year. CTD flights are not to be
considered, except under special circumstances.
