Dr Bob Dunthorn
|
Bob is the most experienced club coach and as such is a respected pilot. His personal habits however, leave much to be desired. Bob is not exactly renown for his kindness towards the fairer sex, small children, animals, non-pilots, pilots ... in fact, he really is a grumpy old git. Competitively Bob has had quite a varied and interesting career, In the early days when Bob was still working for Sir George Cayley (as his coachman) Bob did quite well, winning pretty much everything. Hardly surprising with a world Hang Gliding population of 1 at that time.
Bob in his youth -> |
|
Age: Age: Ancient, Prehistoric even.
Marital status: Single (as if anyone would marry him. . . )
Born: Long, long time ago far, far away
Where do you live now? Aberdeen. (House prices in the area seem to have plummeted since Bob moved in)
Occupation: Now retired having as Transco wouldn't let him dig up any more unsuspecting parts of the countryside to lay huge pipelines in them
Any previous occupations? Ship's boy, Coachman, NCT teacher, tact councilor, SSPCA inspector .
How and when did you start flying? The early days with Sir George was a laugh, then no flying for years until a surfing expedition to California in the 70's when I was reintroduced to flying again. Watching the development of hang gliding has been fun until suddenly all of these bloody wimmin sprung out from their proper places (the kitchen (barefoot and pregnant of course)) and started flying! The bloody cheek! Worse was to follow when bloody parapoofters arrived on the scene here in Aberdeen, and then horror of horrors, wimmin Parapoofters !
Which pilot(s) most influenced you? Leonardo wasne bad for an Itie.
What is your favourite flying site in Britain? Anywhere with no wimmin and no parapoofters !
What is your favourite flying site in Europe? Lanzarotte, as I can watch the bloody Huns crash in and I get to see the gurlies with their tits out on the beach. Mind you, I'm fussy as they have to be big firm ones (Germans or tits?), none of the floppy ones like spaniels lugs for me !
What is your favourite flying site in the World? Cairnwell: no Huns, almost no wimmin and loads of people to carry my glider up.
When and where was your most memorable flying experience? Doing formation top to bottoms from bar stools in the Fife hotel in Braemar with Sandy Argo. Bottom landing at Mt Blair in a puddle, on my belly, produced a bow wave like a destroyer on steroids and then that bugger Dave Brindle said "I thought you didn't like windsurfing, Bob?". Smart bastard. Flying one armed from the top of Ager to the bottom landing field after dislocating my arm on take off was fun as well.
Remember what we
said about Bob being the most experienced club coach we have?
