Mr
Richy Grundy Richy used to be
the gypsy of the club, having both a white van and a dog on a string. He has
just turned over a new leaf, as he doesn’t like pikeys, and bought a posh
Volvo 4x4. He has had a few wings in his time, notably the bright pink Sabre (which John Newton just had to buy from him) and is now flying an Advance Sigma 5. Being a club coach he is very helpful on the hill to anyone needing advice, though it’s much better if you offer him a cigarette before asking the question.

- Born: South Africa but got deported after throwing stones at the black kids across the road.
- Where do you live now? In a big house in Ballater.
- Occupation: Dope on a rope supervisor
- Any previous occupations? Dope on the drill floor of an oil rig, chippy (goes with being a pikey), as does house breaker. Almost became a paragliding instructor but can’t find the time to do the last exam. Once sold lucky heather for a summer on the London underground.
- How and when did you start flying? About 2 hours after finding some mushrooms in the field we were camped in. My da gave me a right belting but I went to Spain and got some more.
- Which pilot(s) most influenced you? Bob Dunthorn for always having a car to drive up the hill.
- What is your favourite flying site in Britain? Leadlich as its easy to drive up. But Craiglich is now more attractive as I’ve got the 4x4.
- What is your favourite flying site in Europe? Spain as you can drive up the hill and there’s always someone to blag a fag from.
- What is your favourite flying site in the World? Brenton in South Africa because its only a 200m drive from my house there.
- When and where was your most memorable flying experience? I have fond memories of watching Julian flying over the Cairngorms from Morrone as I had a fag on the hillside.
