Mr Richy Grundy

Richy used to be the gypsy of the club, having both a white van and a dog on a string. He has just turned over a new leaf, as he doesn’t like pikeys, and bought a posh Volvo 4x4.

He has had a few wings in his time, notably the bright pink Sabre (which John Newton just had to buy from him) and is now flying an Advance Sigma 5. Being a club coach he is very helpful on the hill to anyone needing advice, though it’s much better if you offer him a cigarette before asking the question.

·         What is your favourite flying site in the World?   Brenton in South Africa because its only a 200m drive from my house there.

·         When and where was your most memorable flying experience?  I have fond memories of watching Julian flying over the Cairngorms from Morrone as I had a fag on the hillside.

·        Who do you most admire in the sport?  Bob Dunthorn.

·         What is the trait that you most deplore in yourself?   Never having enough cigarettes.

·         What is the trait that you most deplore in others?   Not being tall, good looking, generous like myself.

·         When not flying, what do you do for recreation?   Make sprigs of lucky heather.

·         What is your favourite piece of music?    El Cigaretto by the Gypsy Kings.

·         What is your favourite book?   Can’t read but the pictures in the magazines that Bob lends me are good.

·         What is your favourite film?   Snatch.

·         What is your greatest fear?   Ostriches.

·         What is your idea of perfect happiness?   Where to start? There’s so much I want: a road to the top of each hill; a fag machine at the top; a girlfriend to pick me up after flying, with a cigarette already lit. And …. (I fell asleep at that point and didn’t hear the rest).

·         What would your motto be?    Be kind and tolerant in all I say and all I do.

·         How would you like to be remembered?   I knew this, but I’ve forgotten my answer. Sorry. Got a light?
